Chilvary Lives in our YOUTH!

Tonight after school, I was tutoring two students. A boy in Math, and a girl in Spelling. Both students are in my class, and I adore both of them equally.

Although they don't typically interact with each other socially, I have never seen either of them be unkind to the other. He is very liked by all of the girls, and is quite handsome. She is quite plain, a little heavy, but very sweet. He is white, she is african american.

I know that students who stay after school do not have a chance to get an afterschool snack, and that it is difficult to concentrate on a recently emptied from lunch belly, so I often have a snack for my students. I offered some popcorn to both students. They both eagerly accepted with a thank you.

The young man was closest to me, and I started to give him the popcorn first. He then looked at me and said "Mrs. Shuman, if you don't mind, could you give _____ (the girl) her popcorn first, since she is a girl." I was so impressed!! So, my dear friends, with all the bad news and horrible things we hear, the truth of the matter is, there are still chidlren who look beyond popularity racial differences, and everything else, just to be a gentleman! IT IS TRUE CHILVARY LIVES IN OUR YOUTH!!!

The Tooth Brushing Play By Play!

Sometimes, when I can't be in the same room as my girls, I let them use our cordless phones, that have intercoms (it's kind of like a walkie talkie). We both get a phone turn it on speaker, and set it on the counter. I often get to hear conversations I would often miss if I were in the room, because they usually forget I am listening. However, tonight I got the "Tooth Brushing PLAY BY PLAY"
First it was simple
"I am putting the Crest on my toothbrush. "
"Mom, I can't find mine, Can I borrow yours? I promise not to bite on it?"
" I am scrubbing now, EW, it is dripping on your jammies....(giggle)now it's on yours.
"I must be brushing good, my teeth are bleeding, that's good huh mom?
" No, that's not good that means you didn't brush good before."
"That's it now I am just going to floss!"
"Cool there is blood on my floss! Did you get blood on your floss too? I like blood on my floss!"
" I don't always need to floss, I think fluoriding it the most important."
" Not me, I like to skip fluoride (WHISPER) when mom doesn't know."
The phone clicks off.
