A SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Growing up in Utah, I never remember ever having a snow day. However, living in Idaho where students have to travel through canyons on busses to get to school, I have come to appreciate a phone call at 6:00 in the morning saying....."snow day!!!!"

I know as a teacher, I shouldn't get so excited, but I love being able to go back to bed, and watch a movie with my children, pop some popcorn, and just enjoy the day with my delightful offspring!! I should have been doing laundry or cleaning out one of my closets. But, I enjoyed a day of NOTHING!!! Yippeeeeee!! It was sensational!!! I have been completely useless and I completely enjoyed it. But tomorrow, I will get back into to the joy of hard work once again. It is so nice to find joy in life's journey!

My mom was a mystery to me, but I am not sure she really ever understood her own self. I know she only wanted acceptance, but what she never knew was she had what she wanted ........she never knew she had unconditional love in everyone of her children.....why is it we often take that for granted? Such a precious and pure love, and so many with depression can't see it?

As the years pass and I get older, I start to understand a little more, and feel sorry for her..... she missed so much as a result..............she was a woman trouble terribly with bi-polar disorder, and prescription drug addiction.

But, beyond that, I occasionally saw moments when the spirit she was would shine through. The funny thing is, The year before she died, I saw them more often.
Today, for her birthday, I want to honor those moments. Gifts I got from my mother either directly, or by default:
1. She was very kind to handicap children, and those struggling more than her.
2. She knew how to do hair.
3. She was accepting of people from all walks of life
4. She could laugh at herself.
5. Once when I was little, I threatened God if he didn't help me, I would never believe in him again. She told me I should never threaten God...and praying was for his will not mine.
6. Blue eyes
7. The ability to express myself
8. Compassion
9. A heart that is ALWAYS to close to my eyes
10. Poetry

I love you mom....... I miss you...............Happy Birthday. I hope your final wish came true..............

How do they do it??

This last month has been a month of reflection for me. I watch my teenagers everyday, I have known them since they were newborns. Back in the days, when they covered themselves in mud from head to toe, colored on walls, and dumped a gallon of olive oil on the carpet (you know, the days I thought sometimes would never end.....but now seem to have ended prematurely)!

But now, they are beginning to really spread their wings, and show who they as a person truly are. The last 2 weeks in sacrament meeting, Colton has blessed the sacrament. I am so proud of him. He says the prayer so respectfully, never complaining about his priesthood duties, or having to go to mutual activities (of course he has had incredible leaders!). I never have to worry if he has a Sunday shirt, tie, shoes or pants, he makes sure all those things are ready, and always has since he was a deacon. He also watches out for Mckenzie, and treats his other sisters like royalty............... I just love it!

And McKenzie is so talented, but so humble....she has no idea how incredible it is to watch her from a distance. She is constantly collecting inspiring quotes to memorize, writing music and filling our home with the joy she has within her.

Both of them have faced ridicule for standing up for what they think is right, and aren't afraid to continue to do so. They both amaze me. They work hard in school, and never give up.................

How do children become so much more than their parents ever were, or ever will be???

I am already sad that in less than 5 years, both of them will be out in the world.......both of these two, who are such good examples to me.....I don't question that they are preparing themselves........I just wonder................. How do they do it?

New Year's Eve

This is what I was going to post if I wasn't computer illiterate!!! I have tried for several days to upload video from my flip.If any one has some pointers, PLEASE let me know. I may try youtube, but I don't even know how to do that! Anyway here is my post with out the cute video.

We had a modest New Year's Eve party this year. Our friends the McCarthy's came over for a little while before the dance. We had a nice visit with them, while the kids played the WII.

Then while the teens were away, we watched movies, ate, played games, and ate. It was a relaxing and fun time.

When Colton and Kenny got home, we used some pop-its (I think that is what they are called: those little white things that you throw and they pop!) a neighbor had given us for New Year's... THANKS CROMWELL'S!!! They had also given us those little bottles that shoot out paper. Matilee didn't like the little bottles too much(they kind'a scared her), so the video below, is us trying to get her to just throw one pop-it....notice how darling Colton is with the smaller children.... He is the world's nicest big brother!(This also gives me the chance to try out posting with our new flip we got for our family for Christmas!)

More Visitors!
